Our School Our Students

The Academic Link is the school that grows to stay small! We believe that cultivating a vibrant, collaborative learning environment starts in the classroom led by intuitive and highly trained teachers. They drive discussion and student engagement. Our advantage is our size – we grow our students’ abilities by staying small!

Our students are grateful! They come to TAL because they are appropriately challenged. They welcome the close teacher interaction and the success it creates.

Class size matters: Four to seven students is the average class size at TAL. Our Math & Reading classes are our smallest classes so that students’ needs are addressed effectively. Students are engaged and supported throughout the class time.

One size does not fit all: Curriculum is built around the student. The learning environment & methodologies are researched and carefully designed to appropriately challenge the individual student. We tailor lessons & homework to fit the student.

Mediated learning specialists: Our teachers are trained to mediate the students through questioning, probing, and confirming rather than telling. The purpose is to not only strengthen cognitive skills but to also strengthen the student’s attitude about learning & his or her ability to process knowledge

Reading specialists: Reading Specialists Our reading specialists are trained in Orton Gillingham based programs such as the Barton Reading Program, the National Institute for Learning Development (NILD) Blue Book Method, All About Reading, Recipe for Reading, & other good programs.

Community involvement: Our students serve their community every year at places such as Urban Youth Impact, South Florida Fair, & Place of Hope. They have filled boxes of food for local families at Thanksgiving and provided gifts for children of families in need at Christmas.

Tutoring program: We offer one-on-one tutoring during school hours for homeschool students upon availability. Our after school tutoring program is in high demand. Tutoring available in Math, Spanish, Reading Programs, Writing, and Study Skills.

Our commitment

We will consistently seek the most appropriate curriculum, the most current research & best practices, and the sharpest teachers to ensure the success of each and every student.

-Homework will be minimal. Our class structure allows students to complete most work at school.
-Students are respected and championed. Students are driven by teachers who know how to motivate.
-Students will be taught with their individual academic needs in mind.

Community Service & Field Trips

The last Friday of every month, The Academic Link takes its students out into the community to serve and learn!
Community service is a meaningful component of The Academic Link! We teach our students to give back to the community whether it is serving a hot lunch to South Florida Fair workers, or entertaining children for Urban Youth Impact’s Christmas Village. TAL knows the that the lessons learned from volunteering will remain with our students for a lifetime!
